PROCEEDINGS of  SILVER JUBILEE FUNCTION

We are happy to inform all our members that Indian Plastics Institute celebrated its Silver Jubilee Function on Friday the 18th June 2010 at 7.00 p.m. at Hyatt Regency, Sahar Airport Road, Andheri (East), Mumbai.

Around -300- IPI Members participated in this gathering, which included Members from all Chapters, Past Presidents / Chairmen of IPI with their spouses, invitees from Corporate, Advertisers, Sponsors and others. They enjoyed sharing their experiences and nostalgic memories with one another.

Shri G. K. Srinivasan, President, Indian Plastics Institute opened the function with a welcome to the gathering.  He complemented all IPI Members for completing -25- Years of dedicated services to the Plastic Industry and said that with the support of all Members, IPI will surge towards its Golden and Diamond years, adding many feathers in our Cap.

This was followed by address of Shri Francis Pinto, Chairman, IPI.  He thanked all the Members, especially those who have come from different corners of India.  He expressed that to-day i.e. 18th June 2010 is a ‘Red Letter Day’ for IPI as it has made great stride for the last -25- Years. He also briefed the members about IPI’s activities and future programme.

Shri V.  B. Lall, Chairman, Silver Jubilee Function welcomed all the Members and stated that to-day is a ‘D-Day’ for IPI.  He was confident that IPI will play a major role in coming days and will achieve many milestones in the next -25- Years.

Shri J. R. Shah, Founder Chairman of IPI took all the Members to the pleasant journey – Down the Memory Lane - for the last -25- Years.  He recalled several incidents and accomplishments of IPI since 1985.  He shared some of his thoughts with the members, which he felt will help IPI to grow extensively and intensively in future.

Padmavibhushan Prof. M. M. Sharma was the Keynote Speaker of the evening and he made a very interesting and informative presentation on the “Role of Innovations in the Growth of Economy with particular reference to the Polymer Industry”. All the participants whole heartedly appreciated & applauded his presentation.

Shri M. P. Taparia, Managing Director, The Supreme Industries Ltd., was the Chief Guest of the function. He was very much pleased to join the function and congratulated all the Office Bearers, Past Presidents / Chairmen of IPI for this rare achievement of completing dedicated 25 years in Plastic Industry.  He complemented IPI for giving a voice to the domestic Plastic Industry and making valuable contribution to the growth of the Industry.

Award presentations followed after the address of above dignitaries.

Shri Nirmal B. Thakkar, Chairman, Tipco Industries Ltd., was honoured with ‘Lifetime Achievement Award of IPI’.  Shri Vijay Merchant read out his Citation and the Memento was bestowed to him by the Chief Guest Shri M. P. Taparia.

Shri Nirmalbhai thanked Indian Plastics Institute for honoring him.  He congratulated IPI for completing -25- Years serving Plastics Industry.  He said Plastic Industry is unique and his experience with the Industry is memorable.

Another ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ recipient was Shri.  Kamal P. Nanavaty, President, Cracker & Polymers Sector, M/s. Reliance Industries Limited.  Shri Vijay Merchant read out his citation and Lifetime Achievement Award plaque was bestowed to him by the Chief Guest Shri M. P. Taparia.

Shri Kamalbhai thanked all IPI Members for this great honour.  He said that M/s. Reliance Industries Ltd.  success is a remarkable journey and wonderful story.  He briefed Members about future growth potential and present scenario of Plastic Industry with specific reference to China and European Market.

IPI came out with a Special Silver Jubilee issue of IPI Journal coinciding with IPI Silver Jubilee Function.  This issue was compiled and edited excellently by Dr. E. Sundaresan, Chairman, Publication Committee. This Special issue was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Shri M. P. Taparia and copies were distributed to the dignitaries.

Thereafter, Dr. P. D. Trivedi, Vice Chairman, IPI requested Prof. M. M. Sharma to launch e-Certification Course on ‘Industrial Management’ of proposed Diploma in Plastics Technology (DPT) of IPI.  Prof. Sharma launches this e-Certification Course electronically. The Couse will become available to enroll students from July onwards. 

Shri. Vijay Merchant was the Master of Ceremony for the entire function, whose excellent conducting made the programme lively and kept on tight schedule.
